A Type K thermocouple is the most common, cost-effective, and versatile temperature sensor used across industrial, scientific, and commercial applications. Composed of Chromel (\(Ni-Cr\)) and Alumel (\(Ni-Al\)) alloys, it offers a broad temperature range and excellent oxidation resistance, making it suitable for temperatures ranging from \(-200^{\circ}\text{C}\) to \(+1,260^{\circ}\text{C}\) (\(-328^{\circ}\text{F}\) to \(+2,300^{\circ}\text{F}\)).

The Type R thermocouple is a high-temperature "noble metal" sensor composed of Platinum (13% Rhodium) and Platinum, designed for extreme precision up to 1480°C (\(2700^{\circ }\text{F}\)), with intermittent use up to 1600°C.
